About

Who Are We?

So what is Barakah’s Doula? Well, let’s begin with our name.

Barakah Umm Ayman was the first black Muslim doula in the Islamic tradition. She attended to the prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birth, and his mother’s postpartum period, and was a source of support and comfort for her as she passed.

She provided our beloved prophet with the female support he needed as he continued his world altering journey.

Barakah’s Doula’s intention is to provide the same wholesome motherly support through holistic womb healing, herbalism, and other natural and non-invasive methods of healing.

“Nit nitay garabam – People are a person’s medicine” – Wolof proverb

Community and sisterhood have slowly yet surely been lost as society has killed the feminine. After traveling the world and sitting with women lead communities still thriving we came to the conclusion that women need women and only women truly know women. We need each other for us to heal and live supported and healthy lives.

The womb is the centre of our healing methods as we use the traditional Islamic and spiritual understanding of the womb being the centre of Mercy and Compassion to restore our us to our God given essence.

The feminine gives, receives is gentle and compassionate, homely and kind, soft and safe. Society has made us believe that for us to succeed we must totally remove the feminine and sit firmly is our masculine states.

This murder of the feminine has lead to deep trauma and loneliness throughout the lives of women around the world. Connecting to the womb is the answer, connecting to other women, being held and heard and supported are the answers.,

Through doula support, the Barakah’s Doula academy, moxibustion, EFT/TFT, Reiki, energy healing, meditation, movement, herbalism, counseling, education, sisterhood, community and activities and workshops which cultivate joy, we strive to provide a wholesome, holistic and spiritually healing service enveloped in Islamic traditions.

We began Barakah’s Doula to fill the gaps in the holistic world and provide wholesome support for fertility, womb health, mental health, pregnancy, birth, and all the other aspects of holistic female wellbeing.

Community and sisterhood have been lost as we have traveled and settled across continents. Women need women and only women know women. We need each other to heal and live supported and healthy lives.

Through doula support, the Barakah’s Doula academy, moxibustion, EFT/TFT, Reiki, energy healing, meditation, movement, education, and community we strive to provide a holistic service enveloped in Islamic traditions.
